The Ultimate Situational Survival Guide: Self-Reliance Strategies for a Dangerous
There are many books on wilderness survival. But when it comes to urban survival, there isn’t too much out there. At least, not a lot from authors that you know have a track record of providing quality preparedness content.
Robert Richardson, off Off Grid Survival, recently released his new book, The Ultimate Situational Survival Guide: Self-Reliance Strategies for a Dangerous World. In contrast to many other survival manuals, Richardson’s book is geared towards survival in the city or suburban environments with threats that we are all likely to see in the future.
The Ultimate Situational Survival Guide is divided up into five sections:
• Situational Awareness: Prepare to Survive
• Surviving Natural Disasters
• Surviving Crime and Violent Situations
• Surviving Man-Made Disasters, Threats and Terrorism
• Surviving Financial and Economic Threats
Every section consists of 5 – 11 chapters detailing specific information within that section.
In the Introduction, Richardson states, “Help isn’t coming!” I totally agree. We need to take responsibility for our own lives and the lives of our families. The biggest part of taking responsibility is knowing what to do. That’s why a book like this is invaluable to not only preppers and survivalist, but every American.
The biggest section is Surviving Crime and Violent Situations. This has been an area of concern for me because I see crime and violence escalating as our economy continues to slide. As people become more and more desperate, we will see more and more crime. With the desperation, we will see the violence of crime increase too. There is a reason that Richardson devoted over 50 pages to this section.
Scattered throughout the book, the reader will find tips for survival. These are quick helps and things everyone should know like “How to Stop a Vehicle When the Brakes Fail” and “Protecting Your Pipes.”
People who realize that our world is filled with threats, understand that we are very fragile. The Ultimate Survival Guide: Self-Reliance Strategies for a Dangerous World, is all about minimizing the threats.
Who Should Read this Book?
New Preppers – People who are just waking up to our fragile and crazy our world is should read this book. It will help them to put a plan in place and identify the threats that they are most likely to deal with and then plan to minimize the severity of the threats. This will help a new preppers save a bunch of time and money.
Preppers who realize that bugging out to the woods isn’t going to be the answer for every threat – One of the topics that comes up over and over again is the topic of bugging in vs bugging out. Bugging out to the woods isn’t the answer in many situations. Instead, many will choose to bug in and stay where they are. However, that means that identifying the threats that could impact survival while bugging in is important.
The unaware – This book is perfect for a prepper to give to someone who is unaware or barely becoming aware of how fragile we are as a society. I could see a father giving this book to his son or his son-in-law and saying, “I want to make sure you, my daughter and my grandkids are safe in an emergency. I bought this book for you to make sure you would plan and know what you needed to do when something happens. If you have any questions, let’s talk about it.”
